ac on at night with the windows open yes or no
Posted On: June 9, 2023
We live in the desert.
At night when the temperature outside drops below the thermostat's AC setting I like to open the windows on the hot end of the house.
That way the cool morning air can help cool those rooms.
My wife says that the AC cannot be on if the windows are open.
I say that as long as the outside air is cooler than the AC setting, that it is ok to open some windows.
By sunrise the outside air temp can be down in the 50's or 60's, and I want that colder air to leak in through the windows all night.
My wife thinks that it is wastef . . . [

is my ac sized appropriately
Posted On: June 8, 2023
We just had our AC installed today and I'm unsure of it was sized correctly.
For some context, we live in Ontario, Canada and it was about 27C today.
We have had our AC running for about 4 hours now and it's cooled from 80F to 75F in that time.
We just moved into this home which is why we had a new AC installed.
Our home is about 2050 sqft, first floor has 9 or 10 foot ceilings and 8 feet in the second floor.
We have 14 windows in total in both floors and 2 exterior doors.
There are 4 of us living in the home.
I feel as though it is taking very . . . [

high velocity air conditioning junk
Posted On: June 7, 2023
Hi all, I'm buying a house.
It is a plumb square boring 1200 sq/ft ranch that was owned by an old guy who was a plumber for his whole life.
It threw me for a loop when the house had baseboard radiators fed by a hot water boiler.
I'd seen steam heat in apartments I lived in before, but never in a residential setting.
Got me wondering, I saw a condenser but no ductwork in the basement.
Got to talking to the son & I guess the old man was hardo and only cooled his home with a hole house fan.
When he died, the wife had this high velocity air conditi . . . [

My dishwasher doesn't seem to be cleaning.I run it, and there's water in it - but the dishes aren't clean.I had some pods, and those just fell to the bottom of the dishwasher. So I tried some liquid soap - this was result.Model is a Whirlpool WDT750SAHZ 0.It's only two years old.We inherited the machine when we moved in a couple of months ago.Worked fine until recently.Any thoughts on how to fix are welcome.I am not particularly handy.I'm happy to get a repair person in here - but thought I'd check to see if I'm just doing something dumb.Questio . . . Should I wrap these in electrical tape or some other kind of casing?
Posted On: June 5, 2023
I just installed my first dishwasher. It feels weird to leave these out like this under the sink. Should I be doing something to protect them?Question from user Electr_O_Purist at Appliances at reddit.com.Answer:You dont need the junction box if you have an outlet right there. Just plug the Bosch cord directly from the dishwasher to the wall. You only need to use the junction box if you intend to hardwire instead of using the power cord.Answer from user Icy-Performance-5338 at Appliances at reddit.com.Re Posted From: Should I wrap these in elec . . . holes in corners of ductwork near furnace
Posted On: June 5, 2023
Here is a picture.
Essentially every corner has a hole cut in it and I'm wondering if those should be sealed? I can get close ups if needed.
Question from user Reality_Is_Left at hvacadvice at reddit.
Answer:
If there are holes cut in every corner of your furnace, it's likely that they serve a specific purpose and should not be sealed without proper understanding. Furnaces are designed with specific ventilation requirements to ensure proper airflow and heat distribution. Sealing these holes without understanding their purpose could potentially . . . [
