thermostatic expansion valve keeps freezing

thermostatic expansion valve keeps freezing

Posted On: April 3, 2023
Four years ago I had a new unit installed and didn't have issues until recently. The TXV keeps freezing. The one in this picture is brand new, installed last after the first one kept freezing. My buddy that did the install no longer does HVAC. He suggested there may be a refrigerant leak. Any ideas what is causing this? The evaporator and condensor coils are clean and I just replaced the filter a few days ago. Question from user shaggysflt at hvacadvice at reddit.com. Answer: Assuming clean filter, airflow is good meaning not a lot of registers . . . [More]

furnace condensate smell

I'm a homeowner that has gone through 2 HVAC technicians in troubleshooting a condensate smell issue in my house with no luck. I'm looking for some insights on what to even try next to troubleshoot the problem. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance. About a month or so ago, I started to noticing a strong acidic smell in 2nd floor laundry room's drain pipe, the same type of odor that is being emitted from my furnace exhaust pipe. I tracked the problem down to the furnace located in my 3rd floor that is pumping the furnace water condensa . . . [More]

Collecting chocolate Easter eggs is a tradition for those who celebrate the holiday. Some parents hide them in plastic eggs, while others leave them as is. At Lazar’s, our eggs come in milk and dark chocolate. And if you’re looking for something different, why not try our crispy milk chocolate eggs or pastel malted milk eggs? Easter isn’t the only holiday we provide treats for. We also carry a variety of Passover treats, from five-ounce chocolate bars to jelly fruit slices and everything in between. And if you’re hosting a large gatheri . . . [More]

vacuum just the ac compressor

vacuum just the ac compressor

So I was tasked with doing a compressor swap the other day and I hate the burning off of the Refrigerant when I sweat it out. So I got to thinking.. if the compressor is bad, is it possible to use the true suction and liquid line ports to isolate the compressor and vacuum it down to avoid breathing in fumes? It was a Trane unit with the the other ports so I don't see why you couldn't. Thoughts? Question from user GreyCap89 at hvacadvice at reddit.com. Answer: Just don't sweat it out. Cut the copper 6 in away from compressor. And get couplings f . . . [More]

I just had a new Carrier 59TP6B060V171214 furnace installed with a 16x25x5 inch filter housing. What's the max Merv rating that the furnace could handle? I would like to use a Merv 15 filter if possible. Question from user zahna4 at hvacadvice at reddit.com. Answer: My recommendation would be to upsize your filter cabinet when going for a more restrictive filter. As more filter area will give better airflow. Answer from user Stahlstaub at hvacadvice at reddit.com. carrier air filter merv rating The post carrier air filter merv rating appeared f . . . [More]

We usually run the house low temp at night, and the old system took about 10 minutes to cool to that temp, and didn’t run much during the night. Any ideas? I think the old blower was a single stage and the new is an ECM ( I checked). Could this be why? Does â€more efficient” mean crappier cooling? Question from user CardMonarch at hvacadvice at reddit.com. Answer: If you have the means to monitor the energy used, you will see a difference. You are already experiencing that difference. Your old system blew hard and fast. The new one . . . [More]

Hi! I had a tune up done on my AC system a few days ago and after the guy left my ac system was blowing warm air inside and cold air from the outside condenser. My boyfriend checked it out and there was a yellow wire that had came loose and he put it into one of the spots fixing the problem and it came back out a few days later. I'm having someone new come out because I'm using a home warranty company and they're refusing to send out the same company without me paying so I'm having a new company come back. I had no issues prior to the tune up. . . . [More]
